On February 9, South Oldham High School teacher, Hallie Hunt Rock, was honored in a virtual ceremony as the recipient of the 2020 WHAS11 LG&E/KU ExCel Award. The award recognizes teachers who go above and beyond for their students, fellow teachers and community.
In addition to teaching language arts, she is the advisor for Link Club and mentors students on effectively leading, listening, and helping younger students fit in. “Treating kids with dignity and respect is key,” Hunt Rock said. “They need to know they have an ally in the classroom, and when they feel safe, you can push and challenge them even more.”
“The outcome of Hallie’s innovation, excitement, and enthusiasm is an increased level of success for her students, a classroom environment that encourages questioning and collaboration, and a growing community of students willing to help one another have the best schooling experience possible,” said South Oldham High Principal Melissa Woosley.
Hallie is a graduate of South Oldham High School herself and says getting to work with some of the phenomenal teachers she had in high school is another reward of the job.
