How does the application process work?

During the spring of each school year, students are provided with scheduling information for the Arvin Education Center through their home high schools. Scheduling handbooks, course descriptions, and applications are available on the Arvin Education Center’s website under the “Scheduling and Application” tab.

 


 

Are school fees required?

Yes, school fees are required and must be paid by cash or check. The fees vary for each program and fee schedule is released during the summer. Fees can be paid during the open house event or to the teacher on the first day of school.

 


 

How do students get to the Arvin Education Center?

Students are transported to the Arvin Education Center by the Oldham County Schools Transportation Department. We run a shuttle from each high school at designated times to get students to and from the Arvin Education Center.

With a valid parking pass at the students’ home high school, students can drive with special permission (form required) from the Principal of the Arvin Education Center. Driving forms are available in the Arvin Education Center’s front office.

 


 

How much time do students spend at the Arvin Education Center?

Students attend for two periods of their home high school day. As an example, a student may attend the FIRST session at the Arvin Education Center which would be the first 2 periods of their schedule at the home high school. Since each high school sets their own schedule (some are on 6 periods and some 7 periods a day), students will be in the Arvin Education Center for approximately 100 minutes every day. We offer THREE sessions and work with transportation and the school to ensure that students are back for their next period class at their home high school.

 


 

How is attendance monitored?

 Attendance is taken during each session and is communicated back to the home high school through Infinite Campus.

 


 

How are late arrivals and early dismissals handled?

We expect all students to be in attendance while at the Arvin Education Center. If a student is late to school or has an early dismissal, parents must sign their student in or out with the front office at the Arvin Education Center.

Further, parents must provide their driver’s license or the last four digits of their social security number when they sign out their student. If someone other than a parent is picking up the student or if the student is driving, a hand-written, parent note must be submitted in advance for dismissal.

 


 

How are grades reported?

Grades are reported through Infinite Campus. While viewing the IC Parent Portal, toggle between the home high school and the Arvin Education Center using the drop-down menu at the top left of the screen. This will allow parents to switch from the home high school to the Arvin Education Center to see the information specific to the Arvin Education Center.

** Early College, Nursing Internship, and Co-op students may not see a grade in IC for these courses until the end of the class. This is because those grades are put in through evaluation sheets or when the college sends out grades.
