Fourth Graders Dissect Owl Pellets

In conjunction with their current English Language Arts unit, Mrs. Allen's fourth graders are reading Poppy, the fictional chapter book about a mouse who has to leave the comforts of home to head out into the unknown world in an effort to save her family. Recently in science, they also learned about owl pellets (the undigested remains of an owl's meal) and then dissected them. Their schema from this experience will be useful to understand the plot of Poppy and how the author, Avi, must have done research about owls and mice in order to write his narrative.
