SCHOOL COUNCIL SUMMARY

October 27, 2011

 

The Camden Station Elementary School Council met in regular session in the Conference Room of Camden Station Elementary School with the following members present:

  1. The meeting was called to order at 3:37.

 

  1. The Council reviewed and approved the agenda.

 

  1. The Council reviewed and approved the minutes of the September 15, 2011 meeting.

 

  1. Council Action Items

 

  • The Council considered and approved the Textbook Fund Expenditure. With the introduction of the new standards, it has been Camden’s goal to provide students with texts in their classrooms that are non-fiction, high interest, multiple reading levels and support the content/curriculum. Camden has $779.73 in their Textbook Funds. That amount will be used to support the 3rd-5th accessible libraries. The total order is $3,575.
  • The Council reviewed and approved the proposed revisions to Camden’s K-5 report cards. With new standards, the old report cards do not line up with the curriculum being taught, so revisions needed to be made. The different teams looked at their curriculum and made the necessary revisions. The Council understands that a complete overhaul of Camden’s report cards is needed, but that will be a 1-2 year process, if done effectively. With the many other new initiatives, there is not time right now to completely redo the report cards, so we will make small revisions in the meantime. Camden’s staff and Council recognize, also, that the teacher’s narrative (Teacher Comments) is the most important part of the report card and that has remained on the forms.

 

  1. Principal’s Report

 

  • Mr. Martin presented the Spring 2011 KCCT scores to the Council, along with the Interim Performance Report (IPR) and Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) report. The staff already has this information and has reflected on the scores individually, and as teams. The Council also compared Camden’s 2008, 2009, and 2010 KCCT scores with their 2011 scores. The Camden family has a lot to be proud of, and these scores certainly reflect that. Camden’s % P/D ranks it in the top 10% of the state. Camden’s overall academic index is 109.4, which ranks it in the top 8% of the state. Since the spring of 2008, Camden has shown growth in all areas and is currently at an all-time high for all subject areas and overall academic index. Mr. Martin explained that 2011 was the last year for the KCCT in Kentucky, and that this assessment isn’t the strongest indicator of our student understanding and success at Camden. We do, however, believe that if we are following our Mission Statement, and constantly increasing the quality of our instruction, our students should increase their performance on any assessment.
